Cloth Pads are an awesome way to save money, but are pretty easy to clean and maintain! Many people think Period blood is gross but truly it isn't at all! By using Cloth pads you save the earth by reducing waste, it also is better for you because they are chemical free............................................ here is how I wash my pads!

When you receive your brand new cloth pads, I recommend you pre-wash them to make sure they are sanitary for your use.

Now that you washed your brand New pads you may wear them! You might think WOW..... they are more absorbent or WOW..... they are way more comfortable!

Now you might think how do I get that blood out now....

Well you can pre-rinse your pads after each use or simply throw them in a wet-bag until laundry day. Personally I like both and it depends how badly soiled the pad is. If it is heavily soiled I would give it a rinse and but in my wet-bag or bucket.

Usually I like to soak my pads in a 5 gallon pail with cold water with some stain remover like Oxi-Clean. I soak them for 24hrs-48hrs. Then dump the water and do a quick wash in my washing machine with my regular laundry detergent and some more Oxi-Clean. Make sure you use cold water so stains do not set in!

Once the quick wash is done I then bulk up my load so I add another load of laundry to my pre-washed pads. This helps with friction to get any leftover residue off the pads.

Well your pads should be all clean.... I find cotton pads might need some extra pre-treating. They tend to stain more than other fabrics but are still a very good option for cloth pads.

Now that they are clean you may hang to dry them or throw them in the dryer. Just be careful how hot your dryer is, some materials may shrink. If you throw them in the dryer avoid using dryer sheets. My preferred method is ang to dry them unless I need them soon.

Avoid using Fabric softener or Fabric Dryer Sheets. These will decrease the absorbency cause it will build up on the material!
